For the week of September 17 - 24
Sermon Series: Say What?
Week 1: Fool's Gold (Watch or Listen to This Week's Message)
Impact Team Focus: First Impressions
Main Thought for the Week:
There are things we may hear, say, and believe, that the Bible doesn’t say, or doesn’t fully say. These spiritual urban legends are not just misunderstandings; they are spiritually devastating. As followers of Jesus, we must have a deep desire to know and understand truth. When we come across these things, we must examine them and determine if they are legitimate, or if they are “fool’s gold”.
John 8:31-36 (ESV)
31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?” 34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. 35 The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
Proverbs 2:6-11 (ESV)
6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
7 he stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
he is a shield to those who walk in integrity,
8 guarding the paths of justice
and watching over the way of his saints.
9 Then you will understand righteousness and justice
and equity, every good path;
10 for wisdom will come into your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;
11 discretion will watch over you,
understanding will guard you
- Can you think of something significant that you believed, and later found to be untrue?
- How do you feel about correcting false statements when you hear them from others?
- What incorrect beliefs or assumptions about God have you held in the past?
- Why are false beliefs a serious concern in the church?
- What can you do to pursue a deeper understanding of God’s truth and wisdom?
Pray for individual requests in the group, pray for people being reached out to by group members by name, and pray for the growth and health of Grace City.
