In November of 2018 Loren Leighton fell from a ladder while picking apples leading to a major brain injury. Despite surgery, Loren’s brain swelling continued and there were no viable options for care. His wishes were honored to continue life through organ and tissue donation. Loren was wheeled to surgery through the Honor Walk and now we get to continue honoring his life and legacy through one of Loren’s passions: running. From the Honor Walk came the idea for the Honor Run.
Each year the Honor Run for Loren picks a worthy cause to support. Loren loved the McKenzie River and all it had to offer including fishing and camping. He would have been devasted by the September 2020 Holiday Farm Fire on the McKenzie River. This year’s race and proceeds are dedicated to the people affected by the fires. 100% of the proceeds of the run will go towards McKenzie River Locals Helping Locals and the Leaburg Fish Hatchery. Locals Helping Locals is a grassroots organization providing financial assistance to McKenzie residents impacted by the Holiday Farm.
